- Fnordadel Floor Tutorial
-
- With the advent of large Citadels came the need for floors. Basically,
- floors are groups of (hopefully) related rooms. If you aren't in floor mode,
- you won't see floors at all, and the system will be one huge ring of rooms.
- To quickly switch between normal and floor modes, use ";C(onfiguration)". The
- same thing can be done more slowly in the .E(nter) C(onfiguration) menu.
-
- If you ARE in floor mode, then you can automagically navigate the system
- floor-by-floor, which can be handy on large systems. When you use the [G]oto
- or [S]kip command, you will be taken to the next room on the current floor
- with new messages. When there are no more rooms with new messages on this
- floor, you'll be taken to the first such room on the next floor, and so on,
- until there are no more rooms with new messages.
-
- There are also some specific floor extended commands. These are prefixed
- with a ";". A quick list of the floor commands is found by typing ";?". Here
- are some of them:
-
- ;C(onfiguration) Change from floor mode to normal mode and back.
- ;G(oto) FLOORNAME Takes you to the first room on the named floor.
- ;K(nown-floors) Prints a nice, formatted list of all floors, and which
- rooms are on each.
- ;R(ead-floor) A floor-oriented read command. It uses the same options
- as .R(ead), but works with all rooms on the current
- floor, one after the other.
- ;S(kip-floor) Skip all the rooms on this floor (IE: to leave them for
- next call, without the system thinking you've been to
- any of them.)
- ;Z (Forget-floor) This command will make the system forget all the rooms
- on this floor. From now on the [G]oto command will not
- take you to these rooms, and they will not show up on
- your ;K(nown-floors) or .K(nown-rooms) list. You can
- always get there again by explicitly .G(oto)-ing a room
- on the floor.
-
- If you create a room, it will be placed on whichever floor you currently
- inhabit. If you later want it moved, ask any Aide or Sysop.
-
- Please note that you do not HAVE to use floors. If you don't, nothing bad
- will happen (like you won't lose access to any rooms or anything), so don't
- sweat. Feel free to experiment (remember the ;C command). Depending on the
- Sysop's whim, when you first signed on, the system may have placed you in
- floor mode or not. You can always switch if you want a change.
